Overview
The purpose of SS1000 is to introduce students to both skills and resources that will help them be successful in their UMA courses and program. Students will learn about specific resources and strategies to help them maximize their learning, as well as increase self-motivation and self-awareness.
Through engaging interactive exercises and discussions within a community of learners, students will discover new ways to commit to their success as a UMA student. While SS1000 centers on preparation for academic success at UMA, students will find that the skills and strategies discussed are transferable to both their personal and professional lives.

Expectations
Review all policies before the course begins. If you have questions, contact your instructor during Week 1.
Regular attendance is expected for students to develop the skills and attitudes required in the workplace. Attendance for online students is based on a student's completion of academically related activities such as discussion boards, submission of assignments, and taking assessments.
Students who are absent for 14 consecutive calendar days (excluding scheduled breaks) are withdrawn from school. Students withdrawn because of non-attendance may be readmitted through the established re-entry process, but no sooner than the next scheduled course start date.
Coursework typically must be completed weekly during a regularly scheduled course. If a student fails to complete coursework by its due date, the student may submit the coursework late if it is before the last day of the course.
An instructor may deduct up to ten percent of earned points from a late assignment. If coursework is submitted after the last day of the course, the final grading policy applies.
The instructor will respond to student inquiries within 24 hours on business days. For time-sensitive questions, post in the course discussion board rather than emailing so that classmates can also benefit from the answer.
All coursework should be submitted for grading by the last scheduled day of a course. Online instructors post final grades within the UMA Learning Management System on the third calendar day after the last scheduled day of a course.
Students with a final course grade concern must contact the Director of Education or designee within 10 calendar days of the regular course end date explaining the reason for the concern. Acceptable circumstances include: coursework submitted but not graded, errors in recording grades, and extenuating circumstances as determined by UMA.
AI tools may be used as a learning support in this course — specifically for the AI Reflection and Application assignments in each week. AI should support your learning, not replace your thinking, effort, or voice. Using AI to complete assignments you do not understand or to submit work that does not represent your own thinking is a violation of UMA's academic integrity policy.
Always review AI-generated content carefully. Check that information is accurate, appropriate for the assignment, and written in a way that honestly represents your learning.
UMA will provide reasonable and individualized academic accommodations for students who have demonstrated a need for such accommodations due to their disabilities and have requested them. It is the student's responsibility to identify to the Office of Disability Services if they wish to request any type of accommodation.
To contact the Office of Disability Services, please call 888-333-1454 or email disabilityservices@ultimatemedical.edu. Accommodations are not provided retroactively; students are encouraged to contact the Office of Disability Services as early as possible.
